Have you ever driven down the highway behind a car that is constantly braking? You find yourself in a cycle of speeding up and slowing down, and finally get to the point of switching to a different lane. As you approach the slow moving car, you notice the road in front of him is completely empty. The car has been braking for absolutely no reason! All this time, you thought you were in stop and go traffic when it was actually just somebody who has not quite mastered the art of driving. Frustrating. Want to know what’s even more frustrating? When you live your life riding your brakes.
Every time I encounter a driver who has been pumping his brakes continuously, but going nowhere, I always wonder why??? There is nothing blocking his way. He has a clear road ahead of him. Yet, he keeps stopping himself from moving forward. And I always wonder if this translates into other areas of his life. Does he have goals he is stopping himself from accomplishing? Does he talk himself out of striving toward his biggest dreams? In what other areas of his life is he riding his brakes?
So I ask you, what’s holding you back? Are you creating barriers that do not really exist? Are you preventing your own success by keeping your foot on the brake? With six months left of the year, I encourage you to ease your foot off the brake and press down a little more on the accelerator. Be confident in your direction and destination, and drive with purpose!
