If you hear someone yelling an insult at another person, how does it make you feel? What if that person yelled numerous insults, questioning the others’ self-worth, confidence, appearance, etc.? Most people would want the insults to stop. So then, why do we treat ourselves this way? We will sit, engulfed in our own thoughts, with our minds spewing all types of negativity and discord. And we will allow ourselves to sit in that negativity for hours, days, months, and sometimes years. We will continue insulting ourselves until we start to believe it! Sometimes, our mind can be our worst enemy. The remedy? Correct any negative self-talk IMMEDIATELY. This is motto that I live by. Being disappointed in yourself or the outcome of a situation is normal. But do not continue a downward spiral of disappointment to the detriment of your own self-worth. The body reacts to the mind, so what you think, you become. The exciting part about this is that you can become WHATEVER you want to be. Change your thoughts, change your actions, and your outcome will change.
Whenever you think something negative about yourself, turn the negative thought into a positive one. Here’s an example… negative thought: “I will never be able to lose weight.” How does this thought get you closer to achieving your goal? This thought actually reinforces behaviors that will stop you from losing weight. Instead, IMMEDIATELY change that thought. Use a statement to reaffirm your desired outcomes: “Losing weight has been challenging, but I will reach my goal.” Now, you have acknowledged the frustration, but you’ve also immediately encouraged yourself to continue pushing forward. For some people, this will not come easily, especially if you are used to continually speaking negatively toward yourself. But one thing it will do is make you aware of how many times you put yourself down during the day. Our mind is so much greater than that. Just say NO to negative self-talk! Use your thoughts to speak LIFE, possibilities and positivities into your situation. And watch how your outcomes change to become a reflection of your thoughts.
