Don’t Put Off For Tomorrow What You Still Won’t Do Tomorrow

November 28, 2016  |  By Joy Diggs
With five weeks left in the year, we’ve reached that special season where goals tend to fall by the wayside until the new year. We promise a “new year, new me” and pause any progress we have already made. As the year winds down, it is easy to fall back into the comforts of stagnation, looking forward to a fresh start come January. But can I give you a moment of truth? If it’s important in January, it’s important now. And whatever you’ve decided to put off until January is probably something you haven’t been consistent with all year. So why are you putting it off for another five weeks?
The beauty of tomorrow is that it always seems like a more perfect time than today. And the beauty of a new year is that it gives us more time to procrastinate and be exactly who we are right now, without having to do anything different. You have 34 days, 34 opportunities to get closer to that goal you are delaying until the new year. Let’s stop putting off for tomorrow what we probably still won’t do tomorrow. Can we focus on today? What can you do today, right now, that will move you just a little bit closer? Let’s stop giving ourselves permission to procrastinate. All you have is the present. Open it up, and get busy!
Reflection:

What is a realistic goal you would like to achieve by the new year? Plan out some small, manageable steps to keep you focused and moving forward. Make sure to choose actions that you can commit to for the next five weeks.
