Creating Your Vision

January 22, 2015  |  By Joy Diggs

Over the weekend, I held my yearly Vision Board party! This is a chance for attendees to spend time focused on their own personal goals for the year and to create a visual representation of those goals. A vision board is a collage of images and words that inspire you to move toward your goals. Once it is complete, you put the board in a place where you will see it daily.

Studio Fitness Heights sponsored the boards and glue sticks, and all attendees brought a few magazines for us all to share.

We ate healthy snacks, chatted, and listened to some great music (Spotify’s channel “R&B Hits is the TRUTH!) while creating our visions for the year.
At the end of the event, all of the attendees had a chance to share their boards and discuss how the board represented their goals.

Everyone did not finish their boards at the event, but everyone left with a clearer vision and renewed focus of what they want to achieve in 2015!
Want to make your own vision board? Here’s what you’ll need:
*Poster board
*Scissors
*Glue sticks
*A few magazines (typically 5 or more). Make sure to have different types.
*2-4 hours set aside to focus on JUST YOU and your outlook for the year.
Tips for Making and Using Your Vision Board
(Taken from handout a prepared by Maleika Robinson)
*Focus on the Vision, not the Board
You may have idealized how your vision board is going to look, what your goals are, and
subsequently, what images you need. Take a deep breath and let all of that go. Creating a
vision board is not just a way to create a visual representation of your goals, it is also a
process of discovery.
*Let Yourself be Moved
Pick the images that move you in your spirit, not just your mind. If you see a picture that peaks
your interest, makes you catch your breath or take a second look, cut it out. You may not know
immediately why your body reacts to an image. It may be a desire that is swirling in your
subconscious. As you begin categorizing your pictures, you may see patterns emerging and
ideas manifesting that you might not have thought of as important before.
*Keep it on Your Mind
Place your vision board where you will see it daily. Images are the language of the
unconscious – we dream in images and pictures stir emotions within us. By looking at your
vision board daily, you keep your intentions and goals front and center.
*Take Action
A vision without a plan is just a wish. In other words, the vision board is just the beginning.
Many times we have goals or resolutions but never take the steps to turn our dreams into
reality. Take a couple of items on your vision board and identify the next step you need to
make your vision happen.
*Share with Others
Yes, the vision board is just for you, but sharing your dreams and desires allows others to
support you. When you tell others what you want, you are more likely to actively go after it
and more likely to stay on track.
